When I designed the Doppleganger in Tomb Raider 1 I made her a meaty (i.e. disturbing) mirror image of Lara. I shifted Lara's proportions so that the doppleganger had manga like ultra attractive proportions. Massive eyes, super long legs etc.
I loved the juxtaposition of really disturbing with what is considered beautiful. When me and eric were getting super stoked about bringing her back, I drew this concept of what a finished doppleganger might look like.
OH MY... THAT IS... I LOVE... I THINK... THAT'S... *dead* <333 Translation: Thank you for driving my favourite charakter ever: Lara Croft's doppelganger <33
it strikes me that there's a massive difference between US and UK creative sensibilities, with the US wanting to play rather safe, and wanting things to look more attractive - more appealing - whereas we have a more european, punky, anarchic, dark disposition
It is interesting. She looks 'soft' and appealing even though she looks like she has no skin. I think because the visible muscles and bones don't cast any shadows it almost looks like the anatomical detail has been painted on to a softer, simplified body.

But I always like the juxtaposition of beauty with horror.
